Lee Westwood pulls out of Alstom French Open
Lee Westwood has withdrawn from next week's French Open in Versailles after an exhausting run of tournaments.
Westwood, 40, tied for 15th at the US Open having completed a demanding schedule in the build-up to Merion and the former world No 1 wants to rest and better prepare for The Open at Muirfield next month.
The French Open, the oldest golf tournament on continental Europe, will still welcome other members of Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team including Luke Donald, Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell as well as American world No 5 Matt Kuchar.
Westwood suffered an injury scare at the French Open last year when he slipped walking to the first tee for the third round at Le Golf National near Paris.
He recovered to play, although a 76 saw him drop out of contention in that tournament.
