The 46th edition of the Hassan II Trophy and the 25th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup start with the effective mobilization of the various national authorities concerned with golf development in our country.

It is primarily an economic and tourist mobilization, with the hosting of the 22nd edition of the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in Marrakech next October, the world’s must-attend event and an exceptional platform for the development of partnerships between international tour operators and national golf tourism professionals. This event is a milestone in the promotion of the Moroccan destination and the expected benefits are substantial.

A major partnership has just been set up between the Moroccan Royal Golf Federation, the Moroccan National Tourist Office, the Marrakech Safi region and the city’s tourism professionals to organize a concerted and collegial meeting, which will benefit not only the golfs of Marrakech, but also tourism in this city and the rest of the golf courses of the kingdom.

We are also witnessing a mobilization for the reinforcement of the professional and sporting competences related to the golf professions to improve the Moroccan golf product underthe leadership of the Federation within the framework of a strengthened partnership withthe Office of the Vocational Training and Labor Promotion (OFPPT) and the Ministry of Agriculture, on the one hand, as well as the Professional Golfers Association of France on the other hand. The objective is to provide the golf market with a skilled workforce that will helpto attract foreign tourists visiting Moroccan golf courses and broaden the base of national practitioners of this sport.

At the institutional level, the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and its affiliated clubs have complied the texts of their associations with Law 30-09 on sports and physical education inorder to organize their practice and to open this sport to private capital. At the ecological level, the golf course irrigation by treated wastewater continues. 20 golf courses are currently fed with treated wastewater and another 20 are under way, includingthe Royal Golf of Agadir and Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

All of these actions are not the result of chance, but of several years of reflections of thevarious national and international actors and golf experts, conducted during each edition ofthe Hassan II golf Trophy, in the form of round tables, seminars and study days.

I can only be delighted to see these years of hopes, efforts and reflections materialize intangible actions, respecting and honoring the philosophy and vision of the founder of this sporting event since 1971, His Majesty the late Hassan II, who has always seen a unifying event at the service of the image and development of our country.

However, more needs to be done to change the sport’s public perception, by substantially increasing the number of international tourist golfers, and on the sporting side, byencouraging greater openness to the larger public, thus favoring the emergence of an eliteable to hoist our flag high in international competitions.

I wish an excellent 2019 edition to all participants of the Hassan II Trophy and the LallaMeryem Cup.

His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid

President of the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association
